Stroud Metal Co. Ltd., winner of the prestigious Accelerate Award for Best Supply Chain Company to the Automotive Industry in November 2007, announced on 12th March 2008, the acquisition of London based Platform Pressings Limited.

Stroud Metal's Managing Director, Matthew Large, stated:

" The purpose of the acquisition is to offer even greater levels of production flexibility and service to both SMC and PPL customers.

Furthermore, the combined companies will be operating more than 45 presses and will be able to offer to PPL customers high volume high speed progressive die components in both individual and bandolier form, produced on SMC's new Bruderer presses, as well as a more diverse range of high volume precision deep drawn transfer presswork to customers of SMC."

Stroud Metal Co Ltd are able to produce such features as long draws over multiple diameters, screw thread rolling, squared and hexagonal sections, multiple windows, material ironing, bulging and knurling; with press capacity ranging from 6 tonnes to 130 tonnes.

Stroud Metal has recently completed the latest phase in its planned growth, namely the completion of their new transfer press facility. The expansion of this facility is already underway to accommodate SMC's Bruderer presses, de-burring equipment and giving them the ability to further extend the scope and volume of work.

This purpose-built factory has been specially designed to optimize manufacturing process efficiencies and create an environment ideally suited to support the requirements of the environmental standard ISO14001 and the automotive quality standard TS16949.

Matthew Large emphasised that a policy of re-investment was key to the company’s recent success and over last 3 years, Stroud Metal has re-invested more than €5m in new premises, people and equipment.  In addition SMC has developed an exclusive range of transfer presses which offer higher production efficiencies and accuracy than traditional designs of presses and up to 16 working tooling stations to accommodate more demanding component geometries.

If you require any additional information or clarification on any aspects of the above, then please contact Matthew Large.
