Stroud Metal apprentice wins prestigious Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award

Posted 13 Mar, 2019

Kairo Sidibeh started with Stroud Metal as an apprentice soon after leaving school. Within a year his toolmaking talents were recognised by both SGS College and his supervisor, Alan Jones. Alan took Kairo under his wing and he rapidly grew in confidence enough to be recommend that he was earmarked as someone worthy of replacing Alan when he was due to retire, some five years later.

Six months later, Alan’s circumstances changed and he decided to retire early leaving Kairo responsible for 6 toolmakers and all tooling manufacture at SM. In testament to both Alan’s confidence and Kairo’s ability, the transition from apprentice toolmaker to tool room supervisor has been seamless. All parts have been produced on schedule and with no deficit in quality. With the new factory building under construction, Kairo is playing a key role in the tool room layout design, and the selection of new equipment to support progressive die and injection mould tool manufacturing.

Matthew Large MD of Stroud Metal and Stroud Plastics said “Kairo is one of many apprentices we have working here.  We are delighted to be able to nurture young engineering talent and help them develop to their full potential. We are honoured that Kairo has been given this prestigious award, which is a tribute not only to Kairo for his hard work and dedication, but also to those that have mentored him.

I wish Kairo and all of the other apprentices we have at Stroud Metal a very long and happy career with us
